Emeritus Professor R. David Dallmeyer was the subject of an Athens Banner Herald story that highlighted his continuing efforts to share his passion for geology

Andrew Grundstein, Professor of Geography, was quoted in a Climate Central story that cited his research on football and heat-related illnesses. His work was also cited in the Leesburg (Fl.) Daily Commercial.

English Professor John Lowe was quoted in the New York Times on humorist Finley Peter Dunne’s "Mr. Dooley"

The Atlanta Business Chronicle reported on research by Associate Professor of Psychology James MacKillop that suggests that a $1 increase in cigarette taxes would decrease consumption by 20 percent and almost triple revenues. The research was also covered in the Chattanooga Times Free Press.

Geography Professor and Department Head Tom Mote was quoted in a number of media outlets regarding his confirmation of additional ice sheet melt in Greenland. Meida outlets include NBC News, the Examiner, Huffington Post and the U.K. Daily Mail.

J. Marshall Shepherd, Professor of Geography and Director of the Atmospheric Sciences Program, was quoted in a New York Times article on whether hurricane tracking has improved from Katrina to Isaac. Shepherd also authored an op-ed on the impact of climate change for the Tampa Tribune an op-ed for the Washington Post.

The Associated Press previewed the 80th Season of University Theatre

 

Janet Westpheling, Professor of Genetics, was quoted in a Columbus Ledger-Enquirer opinion piece on her biofuels research, and her work was also the subject of a story in Atlanta’s NPR station, WABE.

Mark Williams, Anthropology Senior Academic Professional, was quoted in a Raleigh Telegram article on whether Mayans traveled to the Southeast. “Total and complete bunk,” he said. 

Yiping Zhao, Professor of Physics, was quoted in a PhysOrg.com story on a method he developed to detect and analyze DNA and RNA. Zhao was also mentioned in a Georgia Health News story on his nanotechnology-based rapid diagnostic test           

Research by Emeritus Professor of Psychology Amos Zeichner was cited in a U.K. Guardian roundup of research on alcohol
