International wins for UGA Tuba-Euphonium studio

Congratulations to Hugh Hodgson School of Music students in David Zerkel's Tuba-Euphonium studio, who took top honors at this summer's Leonard Falcone International Tuba and Euphonium Festival. Big win:

In what Professor David Zerkel refers to as an “unprecedented representation of prize winners from one studio,” four University of Georgia Tuba-Euphonium students have won top prizes at the Leonard Falcone Euphonium and Tuba Festival.

Hodgson School students David McLemore, Simon Wildman, Gary Garvin, and Alex Avila each placed in their respective divisions Monday evening.  McLemore and Wildman respectively took the top two prizes in the Artist Tuba category, while Garvin and Avila placed second and third in the Artist Euphonium category.

We reported earlier this on summer on Wildman's exploits at a tuba solo competition in Austria, so it has indeed been a great summer for professor Zerkel's students and the school of music. Reputations of schools of music are made in this very way, so congratulations to this studio and the Hodgson School as theirs continue to grow.
