ENGL 4842 – Internship in Technical/Professional Communication for the Writing Intensive Program

The Franklin College Writing Intensive Program (WIP) is seeking a student intern to contribute to the Program’s communication and media initiatives. Candidates should be motivated, creative individuals with strong communication, writing, design, and social media skills. As a WIP communications/media intern, you will work with the program director on regular and new initiatives designed to increase WIP’s visibility on campus and online. 

Depending on projects and intern interests, work may involve the following:   

Producing episodes for WIP's new podcast Red-Penned, a podcast on writing misconceptions in higher education. 

Working on administrative, communication, and marketing initiatives for The Classic Journal, the Writing Intensive Program’s journal of undergraduate writing and research.

Developing and posting content for WIP's Instagram account and website. 

The ideal candidate will pay careful attention to details; have a keen eye for modern design aesthetics; demonstrate effective social media, digital media, and branding strategies; and work well with others and independently. This internship experience will be for the Spring 2025 semester.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Help coordinate social media for WIP and affiliated initiatives, such as The Classic Journal and Write@UGA

• Produce podcast episodes and related media

• Create content for diverse digital media and news outlets

• Compose marketing materials, such as flyers, newsletters, webpages, and graphics

• Assist with web development and design

QUALIFICATIONS

• Must be currently enrolled as a junior or senior with a declared English major or minor at UGA (negotiable)

• Exceptional written & verbal communication skills

• Forward-thinking attitude

• Strong attention to detail

• Ability to juggle several different projects through completion

• Team player

• Social media for an organization

• Marketing

• Design (digital, graphic)

• Podcasting

• Wordpress
