Student Internship to Support Writing Across the Curriculum and Connections between the Humanities and STEM

UGA students with strong writing, communication, and design skills and an interest in interdisciplinary subjects are invited to apply for an internship with Laura S. McKee, the Coordinator of Writing Across the Curriculum, a faculty role that bridges a number of programs including the Willis Center for Writing, the Writing Intensive Program, and the English Department. In this position, the intern will create content across a variety of modes and platforms (social media content; flyers; infographics; email communications; videos/reels,) to advertise various initiatives, workshops, events, and writing resources, especially those at the intersection of STEM and the Humanities. 

The intern will also conduct light research and create student/staff surveys to explore ways to better support interdisciplinary writing at UGA and support event planning and advertising as needed. The position is open to all undergraduates.

Internship Requirements:

  • Commit to work 9 hours per week (on average) for the department. Times are flexible.
  • Take FCID 4100 Humanities Internship (3 credits) Spring 2026. This course satisfies the Experiential Learning requirement and is designed to reinforce and practice the soft skills learned in the humanities classroom, to offer practical experience, on-the-job training, and exploration of career opportunities in various fields. Graded S/U. The course meets just 4 times in the semester; students complete 2 reflection papers and an Internship Portfolio. 

Qualifications:

  • Strong writer and proofreader who thinks carefully about audience for all communication tasks
  • Strong reading skills
  • Ability to synthesize information and communicate complex ideas in simple terms
  • Ability to think creatively and critically
  • Curious about connections between Science, the Humanities, and the Arts
  • Experience in creating simple, engaging visuals and an interest in developing these skills further
  • Interest in Writing, Literature/the Arts, and STEM
  • Works well in collaboration with others and independently
  • Ability to multi-task and follow through on deadlines
